FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

Q: Why do DJ's charge more for weddings?

A: Remember you are not paying just for three or four hours of music from a jukebox. A wedding reception is much more involved than playing a backyard bar-b-que or a school dance. A typical reception requires at least one or two face to face planning meetings and several phone meetings in the months leading up to your event. On the day of the wedding there is travel time, setup time, the reception itself, followed by breakdown and more travel time.

Q: Why is there such a wide differance in prices quoated by area DJ's?

A: Many people call around looking for the lowest priced DJ for their reception in an attempt to save $200 so they can afford an extra tray of celary and ranch dressing from the reception hall. Professional DJ's have significant investments in their sound and light systems and most carry reserve equipment in case of equipment failure. Discount DJ's often use a mixture of home/consumer grade equipment and have no contignecy plan if they lose a piece of audio gear. The highest price does not always equal quality but the lowest price is almost never the best either

Q: What kind of questions should I ask a DJ I'm considering hiring?

A: How long have you been a deejay? How many wedding receptions have you done in the past 18 months? Get references from 2 events they played in the past 6 months? Ask to see their music list? Ask to see pictures of their setup?

Q: Will you let me come see you play an event?

A: The answer here should be no. A good DJ will explain that it's not professional to bring uninvited guests to other clients events. If you hire him you would expect the same courtesy.
